Alphabetical top website [Apr. 25th, 2015|03:31 pm]
Windowlicker
Here's an oldie but a goodie, originally something I did in this post. Type each letter of the alphabet in your address bar and list the first website it suggests:
http://amazon.com/
http://bankofamerica.com/
http://chase.com/
http://docs.google.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/
http://facebook.com/
http://google.com/
http://humblebundle.com/
http://images.google.com/
http://jamesrom.github.io/
http://kmfdm.net/
http://liquidstranger.bandcamp.com/
http://maps.google.com/
http://news.google.com/
http://order.pizzahut.com/
http://plus.google.com/]
(no Q)
http://reddit.com/
http://swarmsim.github.io/
http://twitter.com/
http://urbandictionary.com/
http://video.google.com/
http://weather.com/
(no X)
http://youtube.com/

What's amazing is how much more homogenized and google-dominated my list is now compared to then. Kind of a bummer, but in a way it makes sense. Those sites are the gateways to the rest of the content now.

Progressing nicely [Jul. 5th, 2012|08:33 pm]

[Current Mood |happyhappy]

Well, I've finally found a diet that works. It's called not stuffing yourself with crap all day. I'm not perfect, but the changes I've made have been reasonable enough that they're fairly easy to follow through on. I'd say the biggest changes that have helped are:

1) Putting a lot less creamer in my morning coffee, and mixing in sugar-free creamer more often. (-200 calories x 7 days/week)
2) Skipping the cream and sugar entirely in my afternoon coffee. (-400 calories x 5 days/week)
3) Not bringing a couple of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches as snacks to work. I didn't do this every day, but fairly often. (-700 calories x 3 days/week)
4) Not binging on the cookies/cake/other treats someone always brings in on Monday (-500 calories once a week)

Adding up just that stuff, and ignoring everything else, that's -6000 calories/week. And lo and behold, I'm averaging almost two and a half pounds of weight loss per week since I made those changes. I've dropped almost 20lbs in less than two months. My deadline is seven weeks away, and it's looking good so far.

[Current Mood |hopefulhopeful]

I'm going to try, yet AGAIN, to start doing yoga on a regular basis. I have two consecutive days so far. Let's just hope I don't come back here in a year and say I'm starting from scratch again. I've got an old entry somewhere in here that described an almost transcendent experience I had once when I was getting seriously deep into the practice about eight years ago. I'm going to try to find it and use it as inspiration to stick with it this time.

Getting in shape [May. 26th, 2011|07:16 am]

At my job, we do an annual biometric screening in which they find out all your important numbers, like blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, etc. Starting this year, if your numbers are below certain levels, like cholesterol below 200, you get a discount on your insurance. My screening is in three months, so I'm going to try to commit to getting into better shape by then. I have zero healthy routines going on right now though, so it's going to be a challenge. The main thing is little boy just disrupts any sort of patterns of activity I might have. And of course the long drive makes me just want to "play" when I get home. But I usually have an hour or so of uninterrupted me time in the morning, like right now, so I'm going to see if I can get into a morning yoga routine. Wish me luck.

Yay December! [Dec. 4th, 2010|08:09 pm]

This is my favorite month. I'm not into the whole "ooh let's be depressed cuz it's Christmas" nonsense. I sincerely enjoy this time of year, both for the holidays and the cooler temps. Plus this year I really have something to celebrate with Henry being around.

Tomorrow is my sister in law's baby shower, which Susie is hosting here at our house. I'm going to get together with my dad and Andy at Andy's apartment, so he can show off the baby's room. It's so crazy that he's having a baby almost exactly one year after Henry was born. It's gonna be so neat to have our sons grow up being best buds, just like we are.

Anyway, life is freakin good. Seriously. I could probably find some minor things to complain about, but all in all, no worries. We're financially secure, everyone is healthy, and I see nothing but good times in our future.

The coolest thing is that between holidays and some vacation time I'm taking, I'll get eleven days off at the end of the month! Woohoo! A real, grown up PAID vacation, and the longest vacation I've had since Susie and I got married.

Happy posts are kinda boring, I guess. Only drama is interesting, and my life is drama free. Oh well.

Life is good [Jun. 20th, 2010|04:43 pm]

Things are going exceedingly well. I have a sweet baby boy who seems to have recovered from his one health issue from the last month. I have an awesome wife that is doing a great job raising him. I have a fantastic job that I enjoy, and where I've gotten enough of a raise to cut back my Boondoggles time to just one shift a week now. The market has been very good to the me this month too.

And finally, FINALLY, I've gotten a consistent enough schedule that I've been able to fit yoga back into my life. It's now basically the last thing I do every day before taking a shower and going to bed. I drew out a weekly schedule and realized, hey, I have plenty of time, what's 20mins a day for yoga? So I've done it for two weeks now. I'm just doing a basic general routine for the moment, and once I get very VERY solidly into the habit, like at the end of this month or so, I'm going to try to start mixing in longer routines.

I did have a Father's Day misadventure, however. I was mowing the lawn, and I foolishly hit the water line running into the house, which caused it to crack and start gushing water. Luckily, Susie's dad has a ton of plumbing supplies, which he brought over, and we were able to patch the leak. So I guess I'm a true dad now, after doing some manly work caused by my own stupidity. Shit, it was like something straight out of that stupid Home Repair sitcom with Tim Allen.

Henry's Birthday Story - This is Long Overdue! [Mar. 20th, 2010|02:21 pm]
Windowlicker
Susie woke up at about 4am on Sunday, February 7, 2010 with contractions. They were ten to fifteen minutes apart at first, and she laid in bed for a while counting them, and then she got up and went into the office to use an online counter to keep track for about an hour. I woke up during this and could hear her breathing hard. At around 6am she came back to bed and told me she wanted me to get some sleep, but I couldn't at that point, cuz I was way too excited/nervous about the delivery. So I got out the laptop and we started keeping track using the internet counter while laying in bed.
Massive story behind the cutCollapse )
Finally, they brought him back over to Susie, and we got to have some family time alone with him.

Almost here [Dec. 22nd, 2009|09:50 pm]
Windowlicker
I now have thirty-six consecutive mornings of yoga, although I have only done the ten minute routine the last few weeks. I'm not losing weight, but I'm slightly more tone than I was before this all started. I'm definitely more flexible now. I can almost lay my legs flat to the ground when doing side leg stretches on my back. I've never been that flexible there before. Reminds me of how awesomely in shape I was, in an all-over total body way, back when I first got into yoga. So, kinda cool, but kinda not where I want to be. Still, better than nothing.

I have wrapped everything except for one present for my nephew, and three things for Susie. Two of her things are here, but I am waiting for the last thing for her and the present for my nephew to show up in the mail. Yes, I do 95% of my shopping online, and I love it. Hope I don't get burned by late deliveries though. Only two more mail days left.

My work building is a ghost town. I think almost half of the employees will be out tomorrow. Should be a fun day.
